Graham Mackie

Engineer, founder, hardware tinkerer. 12 years of shipping — from intern to tech lead at Amazon, now running my own ventures.

I build things across the full stack and then some — cloud infrastructure, embedded firmware, custom PCBs, AI tooling. At Amazon I shipped systems that ran at 10K TPS and managed teams that shipped on deadline. Operations pulled me into rooms when things were broken and nobody else wanted to own it. Since leaving in January 2026, I've launched 16 ventures on infrastructure I built myself. AWS Solutions Architect and Security certified. OSCP expected June 2026.

Experience

Founder / Software Engineer

Independent (Remote)

Jan 2026–Present

16 ventures, all on shared infrastructure I built. Writing production code daily.

  • Built ForgeGraph, the deployment platform everything else runs on — Cloudflare Workers at the edge, Hetzner bare-metal for compute, Tailscale mesh for networking. Handles provisioning, health checks, routing, and database lifecycle.
  • Designed and shipped GenTrellis — on-prem AI inference boxes with custom NVIDIA hardware for companies in regulated industries. Hybrid routing to AWS Bedrock when local capacity is full.
  • Created Controls Foundry to parse legacy PLC programs (some from 2004) and produce annotated ladder logic with migration plans. Targeting industrial plants that can't afford downtime to modernize.
  • Designed the PCB, wrote the firmware, and built the cloud dashboard for DriftPort — van/RV electrical monitoring with live telemetry and OTA updates over cellular.
  • Shipped Stream Conductor, a cloud streaming control room with multi-platform output (Twitch/YouTube/Kick), role-based permissions, and sub-second latency via SRT/RIST.
  • Built BizPulse as my own single-pane-of-glass — BI tool with multi-agent AI workflows, 10+ integrations, and an automated job search pipeline I use daily.

Sr SDE / Tech Lead, Sub-Same-Day & Grocery

Amazon

Nov 2021–Jan 2026

Tech lead for incident response and order management across Sub-Same-Day and grocery delivery.

  • Replaced a manual Excel-based disruption response process with an automated system that integrated weather forecasting — ops adjusted before storms hit instead of scrambling after.
  • Evolved the system from spreadsheet to web tool to fully automated pipeline running multiple times per day. Ops teams configured their own playbooks (weather, mechanical failures, city events) without engineering involvement.
  • Designed the execution engine matching disruption types to operational responses. Coordinated across 6 teams to align on a single workflow.
  • Built an internal service providing one canonical fulfillment center identifier, eliminating the divergent hard-coded lists maintained by every downstream team.
  • Mentored 3 SDEs on the team through system design and code review. Two promoted to SDE II during my tenure.

Software Manager, Scheduling

Amazon

Oct 2019–Nov 2021

Managed team of 7 engineers. Replaced legacy scheduling software for Global Specialty Fulfillment, Small Grocery, and Sub-Same-Day.

  • Shipped the new scheduling platform to the entire GSF network (60,000 associates) in 8 months. Worked directly with customers and PMs on design, hit the launch deadline.
  • Grew the team from 5 to 7 engineers. Got 3 directs promoted — two to SDE II, one to senior. Ran 1:1s focused on career goals, not status updates.
  • Wrote migration scripts from the legacy planning system and worked hands-on with business owners through the cutover — no data loss, no rollbacks.
  • Designed the shift database layer to handle 10,000 TPS at peak. System ran without major incidents through its first Prime Day.

SDE, ShiftSwap

Amazon

Mar 2019–Oct 2019

Built ShiftSwap, which let warehouse associates swap scheduled shifts with each other.

System Deployment Engineer

Amazon

Aug 2018–Mar 2019

Deployed hardware in fulfillment centers. Got PLCs talking to the cloud.

  • Connected vendor PLCs to the Amazon network and integrated them with cloud monitoring and control software across multiple fulfillment centers.
  • Built an auto-commissioning web app on my own initiative — let vendors commission hardware without an Amazon engineer on-site. Cut new site bring-up time by 3+ weeks and saved hundreds of thousands per year in travel.

Software Manager, Labor Planning

Amazon

2016–Aug 2018

Managed 7 engineers. Rebuilt the labor planning system used across Amazon fulfillment centers.

  • Migrated the frontend from Backbone.js/Angular to React and TypeScript — reduced page load times and made the codebase approachable for new hires.
  • Translated a research scientist's paper into a production labor planning engine: attendance forecasting, attrition modeling, new-hire pipelines, and voluntary overtime postings.
  • Built productivity tracking with linear regression models for workforce forecasting — used by operations managers across the FC network for headcount planning.
  • Developed junior engineers through hands-on code reviews and pairing sessions. Promoted to this manager role from SDE I after 2 years.

SDE I, Labor Planning

Amazon

2014–2016

Wrote software to automate labor planning: new-hire pipelines, voluntary overtime postings, labor management. Built the attendance and attrition models used for workforce forecasting.

Software Development Engineer Intern, PIC UI Team

Amazon

Summer 2013

Built UI for the handheld scanners used by associates in fulfillment centers.

Software Development Engineer Intern, Affiliate Points Program

Under Armour

Summer 2012

Worked on the affiliate points program. Shipped production web software.
